On Christmas day, David and Freia took a 85 foot fall while hiking with their daughter, Anya. They’re both recovering, but their injuries are severe. Freia broke several bones in her face, and David broke his back and shattered a leg. Thankfully, no spinal cord damage and their brains are both in perfect working condition. Their medical bills will be astronomical and there are plenty of other expenses, including a vet bill for their new pup who was also injured.

Luckily, both of Anya’s grandmothers are available for helping her out, and Anya seems to be handling the situation like a true champion.

You may or may not know these remarkable people, but trust me – they’re incredible, loving human beings and they could really use a hand right now.  David and Freia are two of the kindest, most generous people I have ever had the honor of knowing. When we all lived in Arizona many years ago, before I moved to Denver, they were the rock at the center of a large, tightly knit group of friends. Their home was always open, and they took better care of me through some of my more difficult times than I took of myself. Watching them raise Anya, it’s clear that because of them, we have another generous, curious, and kind person on the planet.  I don’t think they’ve ever turned away someone in need. And now, they’re in great need.

I know times are tough, but maybe forgo that weekly pizza night and give $20. If you can, dig a little deeper. They’ll need all the help they can get. • All hospitals have programs in place to help with paying bills. Check to see about Hcap. That stands for The Hospital Care Assurance Program. The hospital where you were treated will have information on it.

I hope you all get better ASAP.

      • Hi Sue – Their medical bills are being paid for by Medicare. The fundraising is for living expenses so they can get back to work. Thank you for the information.

Getting better will be a task that one day you will look back on with a kind of acceptance and a sense of pride that you made it through. ~ I have visible scars that, (in my old age), I now regard as badges that prove I was a bit daring and had some grand times in my youth. ~ I’m SO glad that Daryl is with you all. She’s at her best in a crisis. ~ I hope to see you soon. Much love – wendy
