October 17th, 2006 by chief

Interested in reaching out to your college’s increasing distance education population, but don’t have a lot of money to do it? This workshop is for you! This full day, hands-on workshop will focus on ways that college and university libraries can use a collection of free tools to build a presence in online classes and DE programs. Attendees will:

  • Learn the basics of blogging and explore its potential in terms of distance education
  • Get an in-depth understanding of the power of web syndication (RSS)
  • Learn how to harness RSS to deliver quality library materials, including database articles, library instruction articles, and more, to DE populations through online classes, DE webpages, or email
  • Explore a couple of free options for virtual reference including Instant Messaging (via Meebo)

Past training dates and locations:

  • Northeast Texas Network Annual Meeting, Carthage, Texas, October 17, 2006
    (Taught under the name “
Doing Something with Nothing: Providing Library Services to Distance Students – Without a Budget!”)
